TLP Addiction Training offers a wide range of training designed to meet your needs. You can decide on 'Off the Shelf' training packages that have been carefully developed to cover the main aspects of the topic. Or you might like to have a 'Made to Measure' training should the Off the Shelf training not be quite what you require.

Off the Shelf Training Workshops Include:

Substance Misuse Awareness Training
A good place to start for those encountering drug and alcohol issues amongst their client groups. This 1 day training will cover topics including;
  • Definitions of addiction and dependence
  • Drug categories
  • Drug legislation in the UK
  • Increased knowledge of dangers and effects of various drugs
  • Increased knowledge of methods of using drugs
  • Increased knowledge of recovery from drug misuse


Alcohol Use and Screening
This 1 day workshop is designed to help workers that have clients who experience alcohol issues. This workshop will look at;
  • Alcohol units and limits

  • Tolerance and 
    Withdrawal
  • Alcohol in the body
  • Screening for levels of alcohol use
  • Attitudes towards alcohol 
    misuse

Working with Stimulants
This 1 day workshop is developed to help raise the awareness amongst practitioners of this drug category. Improving underpinning knowledge of stimulants can help practitioners to feel more confident with their clients, and this will help to boost engagement and retention of a hard to reach group. The workshop will include;
  • What are stimulants
  • What are the differences between various types
  • Methods of use and harm reduction
  • Stimulant poly drug use
  • Pregnancy and stimulant abuse
  • Health issues

Mapping (ITEP)Towards Recovery
A 1 day practical workshop for practitioners who want to explore working with ITEP Mapping in addiction treatment and recovery. ITEP Mapping is an excellent tool for enhancing rapport between practitioner and service user. The day includes;
  • What is Mapping
  • Types of maps
  • Mapping practice for key work/counselling sessions
  • Recovery plan goal setting using mapping
  • Using maps to fit your practice

Whilst training is primarily aimed at those working with clients, training can be adjusted for volunteer groups or service users if this is required. 
All training can be extended to 2 days in length depending on the depth of your needs.

City Lit Level 1 Substance Use Awareness course

Accredited Training

Whilst individual training workshops are not accredited, accredited training courses can be supplied if you are an organisation that requires this for several members of staff. This can be arranged in association with City Lit. Please email your requirements should this be of interest.

Assessing and IQA Health and Social Care (Substance Misuse)

Whilst not an Assessment Centre, Tim Pope is a qualified assessor and IV/IQA. So if you are an organisation needing someone qualified with this specialism please contact TLP Addiction Training for details.

Stimulants
Stimulants include Cocaine & Amphetamines. They work on the central nervous system 
and speed up the bodies processes
 




Depressants
Depressants include Alcohol and Benzodiazepines, such as Valium. They depress the body's processes, slowing us down.




Hallucinogens
Includes LSD and Magic Mushrooms. They distort and effect the users perception of the world around them.




Opiates

Opiates act mainly on the central nervous system and digestive tract. They primarily control pain.
